Kuala Lumpur Light Rail Transit or LRT Kuala Lumpur, is a popular type of train in Kuala Lumpur. This is also a great solution for you to get this bustling city. The public transport runs two main routes (LRT Kuala Lumpur route, RapidKL LRT route), the Kelantan LRT Line and the Ampang LRT Line. With these two routes, you can easily move around the city at extremely economical prices.

It is operated from 6 am to midnight, new arrivals every 15 minutes, fares from RM1 per trip to each station. Note that all three trains are especially busy in the time frame between 7 am and 9 am and 5 pm – 7 pm, when office workers use to go to work and come back home.

The Kelana Jaya LRT route is 27 km long, stretching from north to south, between Kelana Jaya (Klang Valley Station, 17 km away from the center of KL) and Gombak (16km from the city center). A total of 24 stations are located throughout the way as below:

Kelana Jaya – Taman Bahagia – Taman Paramount – Asia Jaya – Taman Jaya – Universiti – Kerinchi – Abdullah Hukum – Bangsar – KL Sentral – Pasar Seni – Masjid Jamek – Dang Wangi – Kampung Baru – KLCC – Ampang Park – Damai – Jelatek – Setiawangsa – Sri Rampai – Wangsa Maju – Taman Melati – Gombak

Main stations in the Kelana Jaya route

Kelana Jaya: the beginning and most crowded station at 5:00 pm.

KL Sentral: Close to shopping centers and malls. This station is also located near the station of other transportation facilities such as the Komuter train, making it easy to move to other places of Kuala Lumpur.

Pasar Seni: This station is close to Petaling Street – the most famous Chinatown in Kuala Lumpur

KLCC: Kuala Lumpur’s most popular destination, close to the Petronas Twin Towers and Kuala Lumpur’s busiest shopping centers

Gombak: This is the last station of the Kelana Jaya line. From here, you only take about 10-20 RM to take a taxi to Batu Caves.

LRT Kuala Lumpur route: Ampang Route

The Ampang LRT route is divided into two sub-lines, the first is Sri Petaling (20km long) and the second is Ampang (13km). Starting at Sentul Timur LRT, these two routes go a route to Chan Sow Lin station and then move in two different directions.

The first line: Sri Petaling

Including all 18 stations, you can choose to go this route to travel through the city center, famous tourist attractions or transit stations of other vehicles. These LRT stations are:
Sentul Timur – Sentul – Titiwangsa – PWTC – Sultan Ismail – Bandaraya – Masjid Jamek – Plaza Rakyat – Hang Tuah – Pudu – Chan Sow Lin – Cheras – Salak Selatan – Bandar Tun Razak – Bandar Tasik – Selatan – Sungai Besi- Bukit Jalil – Sri Petaling

The second line: Ampang

This includes 18 LRT stations, stretching from Sentul Timur to 11km to Ampang. This journey will take you to the center of Kuala Lumpur, where there are popular shopping centers and tourist attractions such as Lake Gardens, Putra World Trade Center, and Petaling Night Market. These LRT stations are: Sentul Timur – Sentul – Titiwangsa – PWTC – Sultan Ismail – Bandaraya – Masjid Jamek – Plaza Rakyat – Hang Tuah – Pudu – Chan Sow Lin – Miharja – Maluri – Pandan Jaya – Pandan Indah – Cempaka – Cahaya – Ampang.
